Electrical work to close lanes of Moanalua Road next week

The Hawaiian Electric Company is continuing work to replace two 138-volt transmission line poles along Moanalua Road in Aiea, resulting in the closure of three lanes of traffic starting 8 p.m. Monday.

The construction area is across the street from Waimalu Elementary School, west of the along Moanalua Road, west of the intersection of Ka‘ahele Street.

For the safety of the public and the crews, three lanes of traffic will be closed during nighttime work hours: the two westbound lanes of traffic and the middle turning lane. The adjacent sidewalk in the construction area will also be closed. Westbound traffic will be contraflowed onto one of the two eastbound lanes of traffic.

Only one lane of traffic will be available for motorists traveling in each direction.

The next phase of work will be done overnight, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., weekdays from Monday through Dec. 1, excluding Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, Nov. 23 and 24, and weekends.

Special-duty police officers will be on hand to help control traffic on Moanalua Road.
