Firefighters were investigating today the cause of an early morning, two-alarm fire that destroyed a home in Kalihi.

About 35 firefighters responded to the fire in the 1770 block of Kuikele Street at about 1:25 a.m. today and found the structure fully involved, said Honolulu Fire Capt. James Todd.

Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to neighboring structures and extinguished the blaze at 2:42 p.m. No one was hurt.

No one was inside the structure, and neighbors reported it had been vacant since the male owner died recently, Todd said.

Damage was estimated at $280,000.

An investigation into the cause was ongoing.
