Hirono helps secure $1M loan for Kauai urgent care clinic

The Makana North Shore Urgent Care Clinic on Kauai will receive a loan of nearly $1.1 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to complete its final stages of construction.

U.S. Sen. Mazie K. Hirono helped expedite the approval of the loan for the clinic at 4488 Hanalei Plantation Road, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2018.

“Rural communities across Hawaii continue to face challenges in accessing health care services,” said Hirono in a statement. “This loan will help complete construction of the Makana North Shore Urgent Care Clinic, and ensure that the clinic has the necessary resources to serve Kauai’s north shore.”

The 4,400-square-foot clinic is being built with the support of generous private donations from the local community and the loan. It is expected to provide 24/7 urgent medical care including a digital x-ray suite and laboratory, with second-floor housing for a team of medical staff.
