The Oahu Interscholastic Association will move from two tiers to a three-tier format in football in 2018.

Hawaii High School Athletic Association executive director Chris Chun confirmed Monday night that two more OIA teams will participate in the state tournament next season due to the OIA’s new format.

In 2017, the OIA did not compete in the Division I state tournament and decided instead to send three teams to the Open Division and one team to Division II, cutting its participation from 10 teams in 2016 to four in ‘17 in the state tournament.

The OIA will have six teams in an Open Division and eight teams each in Division I and Division II under its new format.
