Dead snorkeler at Hanauma Bay identified

A 60-year-old woman who died after she was found unresponsive at Hanauma Bay has been identified as Jeongyeon Lee of South Korea.

The cause of Lee’s death was classified as a drowning, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office. The manner of death has been classified as an accident.

At about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, lifeguards rescued a snorkeler later identified as Lee after she was found unresponsive in the water.

Lifeguards performed CPR until Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported her in critical condition to a hospital where she died.

Lee was snorkeling with a two-piece snorkel and mask.
