LMU’s Paiva shuts out Rainbows

Stephen Tsai

Kamehameha graduate Codie Paiva pitched a four-hitter to lead Loyola Marymount to a series-opening 3-0 baseball victory over Hawaii tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.

Paiva, who was making his first start after three relief appearances, escaped jams in the third, fourth and sixth innings to earn his first victory of the season.

The Lions won in Hawaii for the first time since 1994, a span of 11 games.

The Lions broke a scoreless tie when Nick Sogard scored on a passed ball in the ninth. Later, Cooper Uhl added a two-run single.
