Police continue to investigate death of boy, 3, on Big Isle

Hawaii County police are continuing to investigate the July 25 death of a 3-year-old Kamuela boy who died shortly after being brought to the hospital.

Police and the Hawaii Fire Department responded at 7:18 p.m. July 25 to an unresponsive child, later identified as Fabian Garett-Garcia, at his Kamuela home.

Medic personnel transported the boy to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Detectives received on Feb. 22 the results of the autopsy performed July 27.

The pathologist determined the boy died of blunt force trauma to the head, but the manner of death is undetermined.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the death, which remains classified as a coroner’s inquest.

Anyone with information is asked to email detective Carrie Akina or call her at 326-4646 extension 277.
