Ocean View man charged with felony assault and abuse
Hawaii island police have charged a man with first-degree assault and abuse of a family or household member stemming from a domestic-related incident that occurred in the Ocean View area on Friday.
Kona patrol officers arrested Vencent Michael Nelson, 40, of Ocean View on Friday, and took him to the Kealakehe Police Station pending further investigation. On Sunday morning, Nelson was charged, and bail set at $27,000. Nelson remains at the station pending his initial court appearance at Kona District Court this morning.
Kau Patrol Officers responded at about 11:37 a.m. Friday to the Ranchos Subdivision area and found an unconscious woman who had reportedly been hiking from Pohue Bay with her boyfriend.
The victim, a 40-year-old woman from Alaska, was transported to the Kona Community Hospital in critical condition and later transported to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. She is reported to have received traumatic injuries to her head and bruising and redness to her body. She remains in critical condition.
