Hawaii gets second sweep of UCSD
Junior hitter Brett Rosenmeier put down 14 kills with no errors and No. 7 Hawaii swept UC San Diego for a second consecutive night, 25-9, 25-10, 25-14, in a Big West volleyball match tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Sophomore opposite Rado Parapunov added 12 kills for the Rainbow Warriors (15-6, 3-3 Big West), who moved into a four-way for second place in the conference standings. Junior hitter Stijn van Tilburg added nine kills and junior middle Dalton Solbrig added eight.
The Tritons (9-14, 0-6 Big West) lost their fifth straight this season and 11th straight against Hawaii. Senior opposite Tanner Syfiestad, the country’s kill leader (4.76 kps) finished with a team-high six. It was just the second time this season that Syfiestad was held to single-digit kills.
Hawaii outblocked UCSD 8.5-4.5, with sophomore middle Patrick Gasman in on four. Senior libero Tui Tuileta had 11 of the Warriors’ 38 digs.
The Warriors hit a season-high .558 over the 83 minutes.
