Fresno State holds off Hawaii baseball team

Nikoh Mitchell, Davis Moore and Ryan Jensen collaborated on a four-hitter and Fresno State held off a late Hawaii surge for a 3-1 baseball victory today at Bennett Stadium.

The outcome denied the Rainbow Warriors from sweeping the three-game series between former Western Athletic Conference rivals. The Bulldogs, who play in the Mountain West, improved to 28-23. The ’Bows, who compete in the Big West, dropped to 25-20. The ’Bows need to win one of their final six games to clinch their second consecutive winning regular season.

Second baseman Jeremiah Burks went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI double to lift the Bulldogs.

Mitchell, a left-handed freshman, allowed two hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and walked one. Moore pitched a hitless eighth. The ’Bows scored a run in the ninth and filled the bases with two outs. But Jensen struck out Chayce Ka‘aua to end the game.
