Power was restored to approximately 970 customers in Ala Moana, Kakaako and Iwilei at 11:18 p.m. Thursday night due to an equipment problem, according to Hawaiian Electric Co. officials.

The cause of the equipment failure is still under investigation, HECO spokeswoman Shannon Tangonan said.

Residents of many of Kakaako high-rises including The Collection as well as Iwilei and the downtown area were left in the dark after 9 p.m. on Thursday night.

Power was restored to some customers in Iwilei and downtown at 10:40 p.m. and to all customers by 11:18 p.m.
