Oklahoma’s Jocelyn Alo, a Campbell High graduate, leads the nation in home runs with 28.

Oklahoma softball player Jocelyn Alo, a former two-time player of the year at Campbell High School, was named national freshman of the year at tonight’s NCAA Women’s College World Series banquet in Oklahoma City.

Alo leads the nation with 28 home runs, is third in slugging (.970) and fourth in RBI (71). The national freshman record for home runs is 30, held by Hawaii’s Kelly Majam (2010) and Oklahoma’s Lauren Chamberlain (2012). The single-season NCAA record-holder is Laura Espinoza, who hit 37 in 72 games for Arizona in 1995.

Oklahoma (55-3) opens play in the WCWS against Washington on Thursday.
