Alicia’s Market in Kalihi. A fire this morning damaged the kitchen at the market, Honolulu Fire Capt. Scot Seguirant said.

An owner of Alicia’s Market in Kalihi used an extinguisher and then a garden hose this morning to help firefighters contain a two-alarm fire to the kitchen, Honolulu fire officials said.

The fire was brought under control at 6:02 a.m. and was extinguished at 6:08 a.m.

Residences on the second floor of the building at 267 Mokauea St. were evacuated and no one was injured, HFD said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage estimates were not immediately available.

Firefighters received the first alarm at 4:56 a.m. and arrived at 5:02 a.m. to find light smoke coming out of the roof vent to the business. They began fighting the blaze, along with one of Alicia’s owners.

A total of 10 units and 36 firefighters responded.
