City to begin slope work Tuesday in Makiki Heights

The city is advising drivers of wall repair and slope stabilization work scheduled to begin Tuesday morning, affecting traffic near Hoalu Place in Makiki Heights.

The work will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays, uphill of the intersection of Makiki Heights Drive and Hoalu Place, according to the city Department of Design and Construction. The scope of work includes clearing and grubbing; rock scaling; boulder demolition; soil nail wall installation; shotcreteing; and concrete work.

The anticipated completion date of the project is Sept 5.

Two special duty police officers or certified flagmen will be present to contraflow traffic through the area. Outside of work hours, the roadway will be fully open. Motorists using Makiki Heights Drive and Hoalu Place during the construction period are urged to use caution and observe all posted traffic control signs and devices.

Questions related to the project can be directed to Prometheus Construction at 591-1141.
