Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim, who suffered his fourth heart attack before Kilauea Volcano erupted on May 3, was taken to Hilo Medical Center early this morning and was diagnosed with a relapse of pneumonia, county spokeswoman Janet Snyder said.

Kim, 78, was released from the hospital today and was resting at home, Snyder said.

“They made me promise to stay home today,” Kim was quoted as saying in a statement from the county.

Kim’s wife had called an ambulance after he suffered severe chills.

Earlier, the mayor had been at the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Recovery Center about 1 a.m. today, according to Snyder.

In early May, Kim was diagnosed with walking pneumonia, she said.
