St. Andrew’s Schools locked down briefly over intruder
St. Andrew’s Schools went into lockdown this morning after a homeless man with a sharp object climbed over a fence onto its property and ran when police confronted him across the street, officials said.
The all-clear was sounded at 9:10 a.m. after state sheriffs searched the campus and found no sign of him, according to a state Department of Public Safety news release
The incident began at 7:45 a.m. when state sheriffs from the Capitol patrol responded to a call at the Queen Liliuokalani Building about a homeless man creating a disturbance.
The sheriffs found the man sleeping on the building’s air conditioning system, tucked under an overhang at the back of the building. They ordered him down, and he showed what appeared to be a sharp object and took off toward the school, according to the release.
St. Andrew’s Schools includes the Priory, a girls’ school, and the Prep, a boys’ school.
Witnesses said he was last seen running toward the downtown Alakea area, wearing a black hat, shirt and pants, with a band-aid near his right eye. He appeared to be in his 30s.
