A 71-year-old man has died after he was struck by a vehicle near Thomas Square park in Honolulu Tuesday night.

Police said the a blue 1995 Chevy Tahoe was making a right turn onto Young Street from a parking garage of the Medical Arts Building at 1010 South King St. about 7:35 p.m. when the vehicle struck the man.

Capt. Ben Moszkowicz of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division said it’s unclear whether the man was already on the ground or walking at the time of the crash.

Emergency Medical Services treated and transported him to a trauma hospital where he later died.

The exact cause of death is pending autopsy results.

Moszkowicz said neither speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

It was the second fatal accident involving a pedestrian Tuesday night. At about the same time, a 55-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a vehicle near the Kapolei Walmart on Farrington Highway, police said.
