Honolulu police have initiated a robbery investigation involving an alleged carjacking of a 76-year-old man in Salt Lake.

Police said the victim was returning to his vehicle — a white 2010 Nissan Versa with a Hawaii license plate TPP591 — at approximately 10:50 a.m. Tuesday when an unknown male suspect approached him and used force to take the vehicle.

Police said the suspect nearly struck and ran him over when the perpetrator drove off in his car.
