City officials said extensive repairs at the Pearl City District Park swimming pool will require the closure of the pool for nearly a year, beginning Thursday.

The pool will be closed for nearly a year for about $972,000 in repairs and upgrades which include addressing concrete spalling, re-plastering the swimming pool, retiling, replacing the pump room concrete deck, and installing a new chain link fence The project is expected to be completed in Fall 2019.

The contract for the project was awarded to Global Specialty Contractors, Inc.

While the project is proceeding, pool facilities at Manana Neighborhood Park and Waikele Community Park are scheduled to remain open.

The pool at Waipahu District Park, meanwhile, remains closed after an initial capital improvement project, now finished, uncovered an electric issue that will require additional repairs.

“We apologize for the inconvenience that these pool closures pose to regular and recreational pool users,” said city officials in a news release. “Keeping our facilities safe and operable is our top priority and we appreciate the public’s understanding and patience.”
