HECO pole work to close highway traffic lanes near Mililani
The replacement of eight structures supporting transmission lines will result in lane closures on Kamehameha Highway south of Mililani for two weeks, starting Monday, according to the Hawaiian Electric Company.
Lanes will be reduced to just one in each direction on the highway, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and Dec. 10 to 14. Traffic will be contra-flowed.
HECO crews will be replacing structures that support 138-kilovolt transmission lines with stronger steel poles, affecting traffic crossing over Kipapa Gulch on the highway. In addition to new poles near each side of the Kipapa Gulch bridge, transmission lines will be transferred to the new poles, while a second shield wire will be strung to protect them from lightning strikes.
Motorists should expect delays and intermittent traffic stoppages during work hours. Message boards are up, advising motorists of the upcoming closures, and special-duty police officers will direct traffic in the area during work hours.
