Man who was fatally struck while running across Likelike Highway is identified

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a 38-year-old pedestrian who died after he was struck by a pickup truck in Kalihi as Kone Keleb of Honolulu.

Keleb died of multiple blunt force injuries in the crash. The manner of death was classified as an accident, said the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police said a black 2004 Ford pickup truck operated by a 64-year-old Kaneohe man was traveling north on Likelike Highway at the intersection of Kula Kolea Drive at approximately 10:50 p.m. Wednesday when the vehicle struck a pedestrian later identified as Keleb.

Police said witnesses observed Keleb running across the highway at the time of the collision.

Emergency Medical Services responded and pronounced Keleb dead at the scene.

Police said there are no marked crosswalks at the intersection. There is a pedestrian bridge in the area.

The pickup truck driver was taken to a hospital in good condition.

Speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
