Junior hitter Colton Cowell put down 10 kills and senior hitter Stijn van Tilburg added nine as the third-ranked Hawaii men’s volleyball team opened the season with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 exhibition victory over British Columbia tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior setter Joe Worsley finished with a double-double (25 assists, 14 digs) and junior middle Patrick Gasman was in on all four of Hawaii’s blocks.

For the Thunderbirds, the defending Canadian collegiate champions, James Takken and Nick Mickelberry each had six kills.

The teams meet again at 7 p.m. Saturday.
