Man, 38, dies after truck crashes in Kahuku
A 38-year-old man has died from injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash in Kahuku.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified him as Kalae K. Kaahu. The cause of death is pending.
The crash occurred Sunday night on Kamehameha Highway, approximately a half-mile south of Marconi Road.
Police said a man later identified as Kaahu was traveling northbound in a Nissan pickup truck on the highway at a high rate of speed at approximately 9:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle.
The truck crossed into the southbound lane and up a grassy embankment. Police said the vehicle rolled back onto the roadway and into the northbound lane.
The truck then went onto a grass shoulder and struck a tree. Police said Kaahu was thrown from the vehicle upon impact.
