Man who died in Big Isle crash is identified

A 30-year-old man who died in a single-vehicle crash in Captain Cook has been identified as Jason Andrew Becerril, according to the Hawaii County Police Department.

Police said a white 1993 Nissan pickup truck operated by Becerril was traveling north on Highway 11 at approximately 10:55 p.m Tuesday when he crossed double solid lines near a turn and drove off an embankment on the makai side of the roadway near the 99-mile marker.

Becerril was taken to Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead early Wednesday.

Police believe speed is a possible factor. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call officer Kimo Keliipaakaua at 808-326-4646.
