Hawaii guard Leland Green takes off downcourt after a steal from Troy guard Darian Adams in the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic tournament at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Leland Green and Brandon Thomas are leaving the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team, head coach Eran Ganot confirmed today.

Both guards requested — and received — releases from their basketball scholarships. Their names were placed in the NCAA portal, a list of available transfers that is circulated to schools nationally.

“They’re going through that process,” Ganot told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. “They’ve elected to move on. We’re appreciative of all their efforts on and off the court. They’re great young men. We wish them the best and we’ll continue to support them the best we can.”

Green, who is 6 feet 2, played 57 games, starting 36, as a freshman and sophomore. He underwent shoulder surgery after the 2017-2018 season. As a junior this recently completed season, he played in 27 games, starting none, while averaging 2.6 points and 8.3 minutes.

Thomas, who is 6-4, transferred to UH in August 2017 after a season at Riverside (Calif.) City College. He played in 23 games in 2017-18. This past season, he played in 23 games, starting three. He averaged 1.2 points and 6.1 minutes.

The Rainbow Warriors now have four available scholarships for the 2019 recruiting class.
