Police seek witnesses in North Kohala shooting as they continue to search for a suspect

Hawaii County police are asking for witnesses who may have seen a light gold or beige sedan in Wainaia Gulch in North Kohala on March 27 to come forward as it may lead to information on a suspect in a shooting.

The car was parked on the makai shoulder facing Kapaau Town and a man was near or outside of it, police said. Investigators are asking for witnesses who may have been in the area or who may have driven by, to contact police.

Officers responded to the report of a person in distress. Upon finding a 37-year-old man, officers heard a single gunshot from an unknown location, which hit the man.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the shooting or who may have information to contact Detective Donovan Kohara at 960-3118 or email him at donovan.kohara@hawaiicounty.gov.
