High surf and wind, heavy rain, flooding forecast for Hawaiian Islands

Large surf, heavy rain, high winds and snow are forecasted for various parts of the Hawaiian Islands on Saturday.

HIGH WINDS
A high-wind advisory is in effect for portions of Hawaii island, Lanai, Maui and Kahoolawe until 6 a.m. Sunday.
Sustained northeast winds of 15 to 30 mph with localized gusts of over 50 mph are expected across Lanai, Kahoolawe, Hawaii island’s South Kohala district and Maui’s central valley and leeward west areas.
“Winds this strong could down tree branches and cause localized power outages,” the advisory said.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution.
LARGE SURF
A high-surf advisory is in effect for the east-facing shores of Hawaii island, Oahu, Kauai, Maui and Molokai.
Large surf will continue along the east shores through the weekend then gradually decrease tonight through early next week.
Surf of 8 to 12 feet is expected along the east shores of Oahu, Kauai, Maui and Molokai. Waves are predicted to lower to 7 to 10 feet Sunday.
The advisory expires 6 p.m. Sunday for the east shores of Oahu, Kauai, Maui and Molokai.
Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, longshore and rip currents that make swimming difficult and dangerous.
Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should exercise caution and heed all advice given by Honolulu Ocean Safety officials.
