Girl, 17, in crosswalk critically injured after being hit by vehicle in Pearl City

A 17-year-old pedestrian was critically injured after a vehicle struck her in Pearl City Tuesday night.

The vehicle operated by a 49-year-old Kapolei man was traveling southbound in the far right lane of Waimano Home Road at approximately 9 p.m. and observed another vehicle stopped in traffic.

Police said the vehicle overtook the second vehicle and continued traveling south in the far left lane of the thoroughfare when he struck the pedestrian at the intersection of Waimano Home Road and Kuahaka Street.

She was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision. The 17-year-old girl was taken in critical condition to an area hospital.

Police said neither speed, drugs nor alcohol were factors in the crash.
