Department of Health closes Ohana Tacos on Maui due to roach infestation
The state Department of Health has closed Ohana Tacos in Lahaina, Maui due to an “extensive roach infestation.”
The DOH Sanitation Branch issued a red closed placard at 3600 Lower Honoapiilani Road, Suite A after health inspectors observed numerous food safety violations during a routine inspection Thursday.
Officials observed live roaches in and around the meat slicer, hot-holding unit, packages of food skewers, food service plates, dish storage area, and hand washing sink.
A red placard is issued if there is an immediate health threat to the community.
“The closure of Ohana Tacos and the suspension of its foodservice permit will remain in effect until the establishment completes required actions, passes a follow-up health inspection and receives DOH approval to reopen,” according to a news release.
The restaurant will be required clean and sanitize all food and non-food contact surfaces, enclose all entry points to prevent the entry of pests, eradicate the cockroach infestation, dispose of any contaminated paper goods, single-use items and food items.
