Florida man awaiting extradition for Maui rape-murder cold case
A man indicted for the 2000 rape and murder of Kimberly Belluomini in her apartment in Kihei, Maui is awaiting extradition from Palm Beach Florida.
Maui police said that the Palm Beach Sheriffs Marine Unit arrested Anthony Moreno Thursday.
In October 2000, Belluomini and Moreno were at Henry’s Bar in Kihei then went to her apartment at South Point, Maui police said.
The following morning, Belluomini was found dead in her apartment. Moreno was considered a person of interest but he was not charged until he was indicted on Nov. 22 after Maui detectives continued investigating.
After Belluomini’s murder, Moreno lived in Texas and more recently in Florida, where he had been living on a boat in a West Palm Beach marina, when he was arrested, Maui police said.
His bail has been set at $1 million dollars as he awaits extradition.
