Hawaii island police charge man for vehicle break-in, drugs
Hawaii island police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old Keaau man with numerous drug and property crime offenses after he was caught breaking into a vehicle on Friday morning.
At about 9:30 a.m. Friday, police arrested Troy K. Canda-Raigumai after responding to reports of a suspicious male possibly breaking into vehicles at the intersection of Puainako and Komohana streets in Hilo.
Police found Canda-Raigumai seated in a vehicle and determined that he had broken into another vehicle, taken items from it and placed it in his. He was taken to the Hilo Police Station, while his vehicle was recovered as evidence.
Upon searching his car, police found 5.35 grams of dried, processed marijuana, 0.39 grams of methamphetamine, 0.63 grams of heroin, miscellaneous prescription pills and stolen items from the victim’s vehicle.
Canda-Raigumai was charged with first-degree, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, fourth-degree theft, third-degree criminal property damage, attempted second-degree theft, habitual property crimes and promotion of a detrimental drug in the third-degree.
His total bail was set at $63,000. He remains in police custody, pending his initial court appearance today in Hilo District Court.
