Samuel J. Campiformio makes his initial court appearance in Honolulu after being charged with second-degree murder. He was released from custody last week in connection with the killing.

A 42-year-old Kahaluu man, who pleaded no contest in the 2018 stabbing death of his tenant whose body was found in a shipping container on his property, was released from custody last week.

In exchange for his Oct. 3 plea of no contest to manslaughter, Samuel Campiformio agreed to accept a 20-year prison term at sentencing in the death of Kenneth Ratzlaff. He was originally charged with second-degree murder.

Instead Circuit Judge Fa`auuga To`oto`o sentenced him on Dec. 4 to 10 years’ probation and imprisonment of 398 days, but was credited the 398 days for time served.

He was also ordered to pay $2,077.44 in restitution to Ratzlaff’s father, Michael.

Campiformio was released from custody Dec. 4.
