Hawaii head coach Laura Beeman talked to her players during a timeout against Saint Mary’s in the second half of a game.

The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine basketball team went to the backcourt for its first two recruits of the current signing period.

Eva Ongoongotau of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Trinity Slocum of Meridian, Idaho, who will both be freshmen in 2021-‘22, have signed national letters of intent, the school said today.

Ongoongotau, a 5-foot-10 guard from Pleasant Grove High, was named to consecutive first-team, All-State squads and averaged 15 points, six assists, six rebounds, and five steals a game in the 2019-20 season. She also played four years on the school’s golf team.

Her father, Vaha, played football for Brigham Young (1994-‘96).

“Eva will fit great into our system as an athletic guard with the ability to get to the basket (who) knows how to score,” said head coach Laura Beeman in a statement.

Slocum, a 5-foot-7 guard, played for state champion Mountain View High where she was named to consecutive first-team, All-State squads and averaged 15 points, six assists, six rebounds, and five steals a game in the 2019-20 season.

Slocum’s sister, Destiny, plays for Arkansas.

“Trinity is a sleeper for us,” Beeman said. “She’s a guard who flew under the radar, and I think, Trinity is one of those diamonds in the rough. Her basketball IQ is incredible, and she (plays) in such a physical way that our fans will enjoy watching her play.”
