Keaau house heavily damaged in fire

No one was injured in a fire this morning that caused major damage to a two-story house in Keaau on Hawaii island.

Fire officials report that damage to the home was estimated at $187,500 and about 75% of the residential structure and contents were damaged.

The home, including an adjoining two-car garage, measures about 2,000 square feet.

Firefighters responded to a report of a building fire at 6:56 a.m. The first unit arrived at 7:01 a.m. at 17-183 Papapa St., and the blaze was brought under control by 7:47 a.m. and extinguished at 8:37 a.m.

A total of 16 firefighters from eight companies responded.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation, the Hawaii County Fire Department said in a news release.

All occupants were accounted for and refused medical treatment.
