A 66-year-old woman has died in an early-morning fire in Waianae today.

Eleven units with 36 firefighters responded to a fire that broke out at a single-story house on Momona Place just before 12:40 a.m.

Upon arrival, they found heavy black smoke and flames emanating from the structure and a large number of propane tanks against the back of the home, the Honolulu Fire Department said.

Firefighters cooled propane tanks and battled the flames. They located an unresponsive woman in the home and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation once they took her out of the structure.

Emergency Medical Services personnel treated her and took her in critical condition to a hospital where she died.

EMS also treated a 17-year-old boy at the scene for smoke-related injuries. He refused further treatment.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 1:23 a.m. and extinguished it at 2:25 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate has yet to be determined.
