Fire causes $385K in damage to Waimanalo home

The Honolulu Fire Department has determined a residential fire that broke out at a single-story home in Waimanalo Wednesday night caused approximately $385,000 in damage to the structure and its contents.

More than 30 firefighters responded to the fire on Kuhimana Street shortly before 8 p.m. and found heavy black smoke and flames emanating from all four sides of the structure.

All occupants evacuated the home. Emergency Medical Services personnel treated a 49-year-old man for minor burns. Another resident, a 76-year-old woman, was not injured.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 8:24 p.m. and extinguished it just before 9:30 p.m.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
