McCully residential fire was intentionally set

The Honolulu Fire Department announced today that a Saturday McCully residential fire was intentionally set.

The fire originated in a corner bedroom on the first floor of a two-story, multi-unit building, a fire investigator determined.

The building is located at 2827 Waialae Avenue in McCully.

The cause was incendiary and the incident was referred to the Honolulu Police Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Damage to the building was estimated at $340,000 and $10,000 to its contents.

The building had been recently vacated to prepare for renovations. There were no working smoke alarms.
