Cathedral keeps Christmas going

The Cathedral of Saint Andrew continues the celebration of Christmas with a Festival of Lessons and Carols tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.

John Renke, director of music, presents the Cathedral Choir and music from Hawaii’s largest pipe organ, according to a church announcement. The Festival of Lessons is an Anglican Christmas tradition created in 1880 on Christmas Eve in England by E.W. Benson, who later became the archbishop of Canterbury.

On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., the cathedral concludes the Christmas season with a Choral Evensong for the Feast of the Epiphany, featuring choral music of Mendelssohn, Sumsion and Cornelius. Epiphany commemorates the visitation of the Magi to the infant Jesus.

Admission and parking are free for both events, though donations will be accepted. St. Andrew’s is in downtown Honolulu at the corner of Beretania Street and Alakea/Queen Emma Street. For more information, call 524-2822, ext. 217.
