First Tee summer camps

There will be six sessions of the First Tee of Hawaii’s Summer Golf Day Camps at the Salvation Army Camp in Waialua. The program is for kids 5 to 12. It teaches First Tee’s Life Skills curriculum on a five-hole practice facility.

Instruction, healthy living habits, arts and crafts, reading, field trips and beach activities are included, along with lunch and snacks. Golf equipment is provided.

Camp hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and sessions are five days, beginning the weeks of June 6, 13 and 20, July 11, 18 and 25. Cost is $150 per session, and $125 for an additional child from the same family. Scholarships are available based on financial need.

First Tee is also having a Golf Garage Sale for five straight Saturdays, starting this week in Waialua. It will be selling new and used golf bags and clubs, including some collector’s clubs. The sale runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

HPU to host tennis regional

The fifth-ranked Hawaii Pacific women’s tennis team will host PacWest rival Grand Canyon Sunday in the NCAA Division II West Regional at Central Oahu Regional Park.

The Sea Warriors (17-5) face the 15th ranked Antelopes (16-4) at 3 p.m.

Sunday’s winner advances to the NCAA D-II national tournament Round of 16, May 11-14, in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

No. 2 Brigham Young-Hawaii (27-0), the West Region 1 representative, has a bye into the Round of 16.

The HPU men’s team (10-8), the West Region champion, also has a bye into NCAA D-II national tournament’s Round of 16.

Lipsher earns weekly soccer honor

Atlanta Beat goalkeeper Alli Lipsher of Honolulu made history yesterday when the Punahou School graduate was the first player in Women’s Pro Soccer history to win consecutive player of the week honors.

Lipsher, a Duke graduate, made 13 saves to lead the Beat to a 2-2 draw Saturday against the Western New York Flash. She had 11 saves in a 1-0 win over Sky Blue FC en route to winning the honor the previous week.
