Nohara homers again for Aggies

Kamehameha graduate Hoku Nohara hit a two-run home run in New Mexico State’s 7-0 win over Boise State yesterday that sent the Aggies to the championship round of the Western Athletic Conference softball tournament in Fresno, Calif.

Nohara, who hit a game-winning home run against Hawaii on Thursday, hit her 23rd homer of the season in the first inning against the Broncos. Top-seeded New Mexico State will face host Fresno State today for the tournament championship and the WAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Fresno State, which beat Louisiana Tech 1-0 and Boise State 3-2 yesterday, must beat NMSU twice to claim the title.

Joma leads Jennie K.

Eri Joma shot an even-par 72 to take the first-round lead at the Jennie K. Wilson Invitational at Mid-Pacific Country Club.

Joma will take a one-stroke lead over Hee Sue Condry into today’s play in the championship flight of the 61st annual tournament. Allisen Corpuz, the runner-up the past two years, and Cyd Okino are another shot back at 2-over 74. Margaret Min, Eimi Koga and Akane Saeki all shot rounds of 76.
