Rainbow Wahine open with win over UH-Hilo

Univeristy of Hawaii forward Kamilah Jackson scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Rainbow Wahine women’s basketball team to a 60-51 win over UH-Hilo tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Sophomore guard Kanisha Bello contributed 14 points, center Rebecca Dew scored all 10 of her points in the first half and the Wahine held off the Vulcans to open the regular season with a win.

UH-Hilo hit eight 3-pointers in the first half and took a 34-33 lead with 1:10 left in the first half. The Wahine scored the final six points of the half from the free throw line and opened the second half with a 14-3 run.

UH made 17 of 21 free throws while UH-Hilo went 4-for-6. The Vulcans shot 6-for-30 from the field in the second half.

Natalie Mata led the Vulcans with 12 points.
