Chaminade guard Christophe Varidel tied an EA Sports Maui Invitational record with 10 3-pointers in Chaminade’s 93-77 loss to No. 18 Baylor Monday at the Lahaina Civic Center.

It was initially thought he had the record outright, but tournament staff later discovered Varidel tied Notre Dame’s Kyle McAlarney with 10 3-pointers set in 2008 against North Carolina.

Varidel, a transfer from Florida Gulf Coast, hit seven of the 3-pointers in the first half for 31 points before the break as the Silverswords trailed just 50-47 at halftime.

Varidel knocked in his last trey in the final minute and his achievement was announced on the arena’s loudspeakers to applause.

He was one point off from tying Adam Morrison’s tournament scoring record of 43 points set in a triple-overtime game in 2005.
