Hawaiian Airlines faces a civil fine for operating a Boeing 767 similar to the one above without properly inspecting certain components that could cause a rapid decompression of the aircraft.

A Hawaiian Airlines flight from Oakland to Honolulu returned to the Oakland Airport because of a maintenance problem.

Hawaiian flight 47 with 229 passengers left Oakland at 9:28 a.m. and turned around shortly after takeoff.

The plane — a Boeing 767-300 — landed at Oakland Airport at about 12:54 p.m. Pacific time.

Passengers will be booked on another Hawaiian jet.

A Hawaiian spokeswoman said there is no new estimated time arrival in Honolulu.
