Hawaii’s Jennings Franciskovic and Hendrik Mol, right, went up to block Team SportConX’s Taylor Crabb during a Jan. 4 men’s exhibition volleyball game at the Stan Sheriff Center.

A split on the road at then-No. 12 Pepperdine last week had the Hawaii men’s volleyball team dropping a spot to No. 6 in today’s AVCA Division I-II Coaches Top 15.

The Rainbow Warriors (4-1) traded places with defending national champion Loyola-Chicago (3-2). The Ramblers moved up to No. 5.

UCLA (5-0) was a near-unanimous No. 1 pick, the Bruins receiving 19 of the 20-first place votes when moving up a spot. Long Beach State (5-0), with the other vote, moved to No. 2 while former No. 1 BYU (3-1) dropped to third after splitting a pair of five-set matches at home with Stanford.

UC Irvine (2-2) stayed at No. 4. Rounding out the Top 10 were Ohio State (4-2), Stanford (3-1), UC Santa Barbara (5-2) and Penn State.

The Waves (2-1), who handed the Warriors their first loss last Friday, moved up to No. 11.

Hawaii returns to the court with two nonconference matches Thursday and Friday against Grand Canyon of the MIVA. Both matches have a 7 p.m. start at the Stan Sheriff Center.
