John John Florence of Haleiwa advanced to the quarterfinals today in 30-foot waves at the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro in Western Australia.
The reigning world champion defeated Jacob Willcox of Australia 19.27-14.94 in the third round and won his Round 4 heat outright with a 19.16.
Sebastian Zietz of Hawaii, meanwhile, advanced to Round 5 by beating Caio Ibelli of Brazil in the third round and then finishing second in his Round 4 heat with a 13.40. Adriano de Souza of Brazil won Zietz’s heat with a 16.83.
