The NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers opened training camp for the 2017-18 season at the University of Hawaii’s Stan Sheriff Center today.

The Clippers, featuring All-Stars Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, are making their first preseason appearance in the islands and will play the Toronto Raptors in exhibitions at the Sheriff on Sunday and Tuesday.

Coach Doc Rivers put his new-look team — the Clippers dealt point guard Chris Paul in the offseason and have nine newcomers — through a conditioning test to lead off camp. They wrapped up Day 1 with a walkthrough but no live action.
“We’ll find out how much teaching you have to do,” Rivers said. “When you have nine new guys, there’s a lot of teaching that’s involved. But there’s also veteran guys who can pick up on stuff.”
The high-flying Griffin, who is coming off a foot injury and surgery that ended his 2016-17 season in the playoffs, was a full participant today.
“I felt great,” Griffin said. “I did the conditioning drills, all that. So, I don’t really expect any setbacks.”
Griffin said he comes to Hawaii every year with his family.

The Raptors aren’t scheduled to arrive until Friday. They will train at ‘Iolani School then transition to UH.
