Police officer, wife dead in murder-suicide on Big Isle

Hawaii County police are investigating the deaths of a police officer and his wife in Mountain View as a murder-suicide.

They said they went to a home in the Pacific Paradise Gardens subdivision Sunday at about 3:25 p.m. and found the bodies in the home.

They are not releasing the names of the officer and his spouse pending official identification and notification of next of kin.

Police also are not saying how the two died or whether the officer’s service weapon was involved.

An autopsy will be conducted this week to determine the exact causes of death.

According to police, the police officer served 11 1/2 years with the Hawaii County Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing.
