Oahu Red Cross volunteer heads to South Carolina to help with storm recovery

The Red Cross said Amy Laurel Hegy will be one of about 2,200 Red Cross disaster workers from throughout the country who have been mobilized to help shelter, feed and support people affected by Florence in multiple states.
A Red Cross volunteer from Oahu has been sent to South Carolina to support sheltering operations after Tropical Storm Florence.
The Red Cross said Amy Laurel Hegy will be one of about 2,200 Red Cross disaster workers from throughout the country who have been mobilized to help shelter, feed and support people affected by Florence in multiple states.
As of Saturday, more than 17,100 people were in more than 240 community shelters, including at least 10,400 people in 153 shelters in North Carolina and 6,200 people in 73 shelters in South Carolina, according to the Red Cross, which said an additional 480 people stayed in 22 shelters in Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Maryland and Kentucky.
