There was a big stink surrounding a crash this afternoon in Kapolei.

A port-a-potty truck and another vehicle were involved in a crash at about 2:15 p.m. on Lauwiliwili Street, police said.

Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Scot Seguirant said about 20 firefighters were sent to the scene because one driver was reported to be pinned inside.

Firefighters freed the man, who was not in the port-a-potty truck, and turned him over to paramedics.

A Honolulu Emergency Medical Services spokesman said a 31-year-old man was treated for injuries to his left arm and left leg and was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Seguirant said the company truck had a tank carrying the waste collected from portable toilets and about 100 gallons of it spilled onto the roadway after the crash.

He said police were diverting traffic so the company could clean up the spill when firefighters left.

Fire dispatch communications identified the owner of the company as Paradise Lua. A supervisor did not immediately respond to a request for comment this afternoon.
