Jeremy Wu-Yelland pitches Hawaii baseball past Iowa

Hawaii pitcher Jeremy Wu-Yelland tossed a pitch during the first inning of game 1 of the series against Iowa Hawkeyes tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.

Jeremy Wu-Yelland pitched five hitless innings to lead the Hawaii baseball team to a 7-1 victory over Iowa tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.

Wu-Yelland, a sophomore left-hander, allowed five walks and plunked two batters. But he struck out seven, and stranded runners in each of his five innings. Cade Smith pitched the final four innings to earn the save.

Center fielder Adam Fogel, first baseman Alex Baeza and second baseman Tyler Best each had three hits for the Rainbow Warriors. Left fielder Scotty Scott, shortstop Maaki Yamazaki and Fogel drove in two runs apiece.

The ’Bows scored two runs in the third to break a scoreless tie, three in the fourth, and two more in the fifth.

The teams meet in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
